From July 20 to August 6, 2026, Girlsday237 organized the first edition of its STEM summer camp in partnership with the Bilingue School Group (GSB) Juniors and LUMED, a young Cameroonian startup specializing in educational technologies.
For two weeks, the children took on an exciting challenge: designing their own educational video game. In parallel, they participated in activities aimed at building their self-confidence. This first edition marks a new step in Girlsday237's mission: to allow young people to discover STEM through hands-on, creative, and accessible experiences.
A first edition rich in discoveries
Creating a video game might seem complicated. However, with the right guidance, the children quickly understood that they were capable of achieving it.
Day after day, they discovered how to turn an idea into a real game. They imagined a scenario, created characters, programmed interactions, and tested their creations.
For most participants, this was their first experience in the world of digital development. Their enthusiasm grew throughout the workshops.
Learn to create rather than just play
Today, children often play video games. On the other hand, few know how they are designed.
It is precisely this discovery that our camp proposed. Thanks to LUMED's technical support, participants went from being players to creators.
They learned that behind every game there are ideas, logic, creativity, and teamwork.
Develop self-confidence through STEM
The camp wasn't only about technology.
Each activity was also designed to help the children gain more confidence in their abilities. They learned to work as a team, solve problems, present their ideas, and persevere when their first attempts didn’t work out.
Over the days, the shyer ones have gained confidence. The more curious ones have dared to experiment more. All have discovered that they were capable of taking on challenges they hadn't imagined at the start of the camp.
Because at Girlsday237, we are convinced that learning to create is also a great way to build self-confidence.
A partnership serving children
This first edition is the result of a collaboration between three committed stakeholders.
The Juniors Bilingual School Group hosted the camp and provided a conducive learning environment.
For its part, LUMED supported the children through every stage of creating their video game. This young startup shares Girlsday237’s belief that technology should be a learning tool accessible to everyone. We are also proud to count among LUMED’s co-founders an active member of Girlsday237, proof that our community remains committed to passing on its skills to the next generation.
Each child gets to take home their own video game.
One of the most memorable moments of the camp was the presentation of the projects.
By the end of the two weeks, every child had successfully created their own educational video game. Behind each project lie hours of learning, reflection, trial and error, and refinement.
Beyond the developed games, this experience allowed the children to discover that they too could imagine, create, and innovate.
This is arguably the greatest achievement of this first edition.
